Q. What is a sectional garage door?

View from inside a Carteck Sectional Garage Door

Sectional Garage Doors are fast becoming the door of choice for the UK market

They solve many of the common problems we have all experienced when living with the traditional 'up & over' garage door.

Essentially the door panel is divided into sections that travel vertically by means of multiple rollers within a track. As the sections are hinged the door can travel through a tight curve and finally settle in a horizontal position parallel to the garage floor.

Q. So why are sectional garage doors better than a traditional 'up & over' or even a roller door?

Vertical operation is the first advantage, because this means you can park your car right up to the garage door with no risk of the door swinging out and hitting you car, or indeed any pedestrians standing in front of the garage door.

Space saving sectional garage door

Secondly all CarTeck sectional doors have 40mm thick panels, constructed of an outer and inner steel skin separated by a 'foamed in place' core, ideal for thermal and acoustic applications. This construction gives the sectional garage door tremendous rigidity and strength, these properties combine to give you, we believe, the best security solution there is in domestic garage doors.

Thirdly, due to the fact that the door travels through a tight curve in the opening cycle, it means that relatively very little wall space is taken up by the door when it is in the open position; so you can still shelve out your garage to your heart's content!

Q. Can I buy my door directly from the Teckentrup Depot?

No. We believe in local service, done properly, by people who understand our products and who can react quickly. Click here to Locate your nearest garage door specialist.

Q. What is the headroom requirement for a CarTeck door?

This is one of the great technical features of a CarTeck door. The answer is 115mm for the majority of doors. On very large doors the height required above the head remains at 115mm but requires 140mm above the spring trays (see the table on Technical Specification).

The benefit is that we can create a door that maximises your drive through height. Many door systems provide doors at standard heights only, that leave you with less drive through height and often a finish that has been made good with excessive uPVC cladding.

Q. What are the standard garage door sizes?

Our doors are made to measure so they’re the perfect fit for your garage. If you want to learn about the industry standard sized doors (which we also supply) then take a look at our Standard garage door sizes pages.

Q. Why are CarTeck doors operated by springs on top of the horizontal tracks?

There are a number of reasons.

Firstly, we believe it's the safest place for the springs, high up inside steel trays with steel lids well away from inquisitive little fingers.

Secondly, on a Friday night, should the unthinkable happen and a spring or a cable fails, then there is a strong chance, with our multi-spring and multi cable-arrangement, that the door will keep operating safely until you have the chance to get a service engineer to your door. Other doors can incorporate an anti-drop device that locks the door in the position it fails! Your property could be open all weekend!

But it doesn’t end there, we believe that extension springs deliver a smoother and quieter operating door, check the micro profiling of the trays – it's attention to detail like this that we think makes Teckentrup's sectional door the next generation.

Q. Can my door be operated by any electric operator?

We cannot comment on any other electric motor, what we can say is that the CarTeck motors are designed for CarTeck doors and only the CarTeck door and motor combined together achieves the TUV NORD anti-burglary certificate.

Q. Will the door seal my uneven floor?

The seal will work best on an even floor.

Q. What might I expect in terms of water penetration?

Your door is designed to be one of the very best garage door solutions currently available with regards to water penetration. Indeed all CarTeck doors achieve excellent results when tested to European standard DIN EN 12425.

You must however consider the position in which you door is being fitted. Is it facing the prevailing wind? Is the driveway sloping towards the door? Does water drain from in front of the door or will it pool? When you have considered these elements you may wish to incorporate other additional solutions e.g. building a step into the floor, installing a secondary seal on the floor, having your floor levelled.

Q. What is oil canning?

There is a phenomenon called 'oil canning' that is part of the manufacturing process. It is something that we try to minimise. In some circumstance however, like a south facing door in low sunlight or car headlights a slight distortion in the finish of the door can be seen. It is caused by stress put on the steel when it is being formed. You can minimise this by choosing a textured door like woodgrain and avoiding high gloss dark colours like BLACK from the RAL range.

Q. Are the Teckentrup Installers employed by Teckentrup?

No they are individual businesses that buy CarTeck sectional doors from us. Your contact will be with the individual installing company. Whilst we would always work with all parties ultimately you are trading with your local distributor.

Q. Where can I get spares for my door?

You will be well looked after by your installing company. Most leave a sticker on the back of your door with follow up contact details.

Q. What sort of maintenance is required?

Minimal. Frequency and type of maintenance depends of your location. You should clean your door panels with warm soapy water on a regular basis, monthly is ideal. However if you live in an area where you would expect attacks from aggressive agents such as salt, for example in close proximity to the sea, you should wash your door more frequently and even look to polish the panels with an automotive system. Further, cleaning your lifting gears with a cloth soaked in a light oil will help to protect your door from corrosion – we must accept that salt air is very aggressive and extra care is required. For general maintenance please consult your operating instructions – they can be downloaded from this site.

Q. I live by the sea, is the warranty still valid?

No, the guarantee does not apply to doors which are subjected to extreme conditions, e.g. corrosive influences resulting from use in a coastal climate with high salt content. To mitigate the affects of salt corrosion, follow the maintenance instructions above.

Q. Should I look to maintain my door myself?

Yes you can do basic maintenance like cleaning and lubricating. We would recommend yearly inspection and maintenance of your door by the company who installed it. You should absolutely not tamper with the counterbalance system or electric operator unless you are a competent person trained to do so.

Q. What if I am not happy with my door?

In the first instance ask your installer to call back and explain why you're not happy. It's in the installer's interests to have a happy customer. However, if you still cannot get a resolution then please and we will seek to mediate. Your final course of action if you are still unhappy is to contact the AGDS (Association of Garage Door Specialists) via the DHF (Door and Hardware Federation) who will help resolve your door issues. We've failed if it gets this far..

Q. If I have a warranty claim how to I go about it?

Please put it in writing to your installer in the first instance. You will need proof of purchase. The installing company will then contact The Teckentrup Depot in writing with your documentation. When the claim has been verified parts will be sent to your installer who will make the necessary repairs.

Q. Why should I buy a CarTeck sectional door?

Attention to detail makes Teckentrup's sectional doors the next generation of domestic garage door. This, backed by innovative supply solutions tailored to the UK market, gives you a safe secure door built to suit your garage opening, installed by professionals; explore this website for proof!

The CarTeck range of sectional garage doors offers you significant solutions that you will not find anywhere else.

Safe garage doors

Firstly our doors have only one gearing option for all applications. This probably means very little to you, but when I tell you that our springing system is completely concealed high up out of harms way and within protective trays, then this has some serious advantages for you; especially if you have children, whose little fingers can find their way into everything.

It's also a much prettier solution than the large torsion springs offered by other manufacturers, either at the front of the garage door or hanging from the rear of the tracks; or worse still rattling around inside the frame legs of the garage door waiting to be grabbed by inquisitive little hands.

Should I avoid a dark colour if the door is exposed to direct sunlight for prolonged periods?

Where doors are exposed to direct sunlight, dark colours should be avoided. Dark coloured doors may undergo expansion due to heat absorption and this can affect the doors performance whilst in an expanded state. Such instances are not covered by the guarantee, however normal performance will return when the door has cooled.

Stainless Steel Hardware, Windows and Door Handles

The corrosion resistance of stainless steel hardware, windows and door handles is largely dependent on how clean the they are kept. Any contamination of the surface will impair the action of the thin layer of chromium oxide, which is central to the protection of stainless steel products.

Regular and frequent cleaning of stainless steel is therefore key to preserving their appearance. For best results use a clean cloth and warm water with a mild detergent. Should any stains remain, we recommend using mild, non-scratching abrasing powders such as typical household cleaners. Dilute in warm water and apply with sponges, cloths or brushes. For harsher stains, a drop of vinegar in addition may help.

Please DO NOT use carbon steel brushes or steel wool as these may leave particles embedded in the surface of the door handle, which can lead to rusting.

After cleaning the handle, rinse in clean hot water and dry completely with a towel.

We recommend cleaning once a month, or more for areas that are especially susceptible to soiling.
