Q. Can I buy my door directly from the Teckentrup Depot?
No. We believe in local service, done properly, by people who understand our products and who can react quickly. Click here to Locate your nearest garage door specialist.
Q. What is the headroom requirement for a CarTeck door?
This is one of the great technical features of a CarTeck door. The answer is 115mm for the majority of doors. On very large doors the height required above the head remains at 115mm but requires 140mm above the spring trays (see the table on Technical Specification).
The benefit is that we can create a door that maximises your drive through height. Many door systems provide doors at standard heights only, that leave you with less drive through height and often a finish that has been made good with excessive u-PVC cladding.
Q. Why are CarTeck doors operated by springs on top of the horizontal tracks?
There are a number of reasons. We believe it's the safest place for the springs, high up inside steel trays with steel lids well away from inquisitive little fingers. The other reason is that we believe that extension springs deliver a smoother and quieter operating door, check the micro profiling of the trays – it's attention to detail like this that we think makes Teckentrup's sectional door the next generation.
Q. Can my door be operated by any electric operator?
We cannot comment on any other electric motor, what we can say is that the CarTeck motors are designed for CarTeck doors and only the CarTeck door and motor combined together achieves the TUV NORD anti-burglary certificate.
Q. Will the door seal my uneven floor?
The seal will work best on an even floor.
Q. What might I expect in terms of water penetration?
Your door is designed to be one of the very best garage door solutions currently available with regards to water penetration. Indeed all CarTeck doors achieve excellent results when tested to European standard DIN EN 12425.
You must however consider the position in which you door is being fitted. Is it facing the prevailing wind? Is the driveway sloping towards the door? Does water drain from in front of the door or will it pool? When you have considered these elements you may wish to incorporate other additional solutions e.g. building a step into the floor, installing a secondary seal on the floor, having your floor levelled.
Q. What is oil canning?
There is a phenomenon called 'oil canning' that is part of the manufacturing process. It is something that we try to minimise. In some circumstance however, like a south facing door in low sunlight or car headlights a slight distortion in the finish of the door can be seen. It is caused by stress put on the steel when it is being formed. You can minimise this by choosing a textured door like woodgrain and avoiding high gloss dark colours like BLACK from the RAL range.
Q. Are the Teckentrup Installers employed by Teckentrup?
No they are individual businesses that buy CarTeck sectional doors from us. Your contact will be with the individual installing company. Whilst we would always work with all parties ultimately you are trading with your local distributor.
Q. Where can I get spares for my door?
You will be well looked after by your installing company. Most leave a sticker on the back of your door with follow up contact details.
Q. What sort of maintenance is required?
Minimal. Frequency and type of maintenance depends of your location. You should clean your door panels with warm soapy water on a regular basis, monthly is ideal. However if you live in an area where you would expect attacks from aggressive agents such as salt, for example on the sea front, you should wash your door more frequently and even look to polish the panels with an automotive system. Further, cleaning your lifting gears with a cloth soaked in a light oil will help to protect your door from corrosion – we must accept that salt air is very aggressive and extra care is required. For general maintenance please consult your operating instructions – they can be downloaded from this site.
Q. Should I look to maintain my door myself?
Yes you can do basic maintenance like cleaning and lubricating. We would recommend yearly inspection and maintenance of your door by the company who installed it. You should absolutely not tamper with the counterbalance system or electric operator unless you are a competent person trained to do so.
Q. What if I am not happy with my door?
In the first instance ask your installer to call back and explain why you're not happy. It's in the installer's interests to have a happy customer. However, if you still cannot get a resolution then please and we will seek to mediate. Your final course of action if you are still unhappy is to contact the AGDS (Association of Garage Door Specialists) via the DHF (Door and Hardware Federation) who will help resolve your door issues. We've failed if it gets this far..
Q. If I have a warranty claim how to I go about it?
Please put it in writing to your installer in the first instance. You will need proof of purchase. The installing company will then contact The Teckentrup Depot in writing with your documentation. When the claim has been verified parts will be sent to your installer who will make the necessary repairs.
